Restoring Hope: Mona's Story of Loss, Strength, and Compassion

In the aftermath of destruction, it’s not uncommon to question everything that once felt secure. "Where am I?" These words echoed in the mind of our colleague Mona as she returned to her neighborhood after the bombing. The familiar streets, once vibrant and filled with life, had transformed into a haunting reminder of chaos and despair.

Standing in front of her home, Mona struggled to comprehend the devastation. “Is this my neighborhood? Here is my home?” The disbelief weighed heavily on her heart as she surveyed the destruction around her. The building that once held her cherished memories now stood half-gone, a shell of what it used to be.

In the face of such heartbreaking loss, Mona found herself grappling with overwhelming emotions. “I couldn’t believe it. It’s my home. I clean it, making it beautiful.” The devastation was not just physical; it struck at the very essence of what made a house a home.

Sadly, for many in her community, this was not the case. Some had lost everything—IDs, family heirlooms, and the fruits of their labor. Many of her colleagues were also affected, their homes damaged or destroyed. Yet, even in their darkest moments, they chose to stand strong.
