The Protracted Displacement Economy (PDE) research project investigates the economic dynamics of displaced populations in five countries. Focused on bridging humanitarian and sustainable approaches, it explores gendered economies in caregiving, expenditure, debt, savings, and mutual assistance. The Lebanon findings reveal challenges shared between host and refugee populations, emphasizing financial and non-financial transactions’ significance. The study exposes impacts of aid policies, labor shifts, and preferences for cash aid on economic resilience. Despite challenges, it uncovers sustainability practices like community collaboration and resource-sharing fostering resilience.
