Arts and Cultural Center
Basmeh & Zeitooneh’s Arts and Cultural Center seeks to provide a free space for creativity and art to the community in Shatila refugee camp. The center primarily targets vulnerable young people who have few economic or educational prospects, and runs activities that provide them with the means for creative expression and emotional release. The center holds trainings and workshops in music, theatre, visual arts, film and photography, among many other artistic activities. In May 2015, the center opened a public library, the first of its kind in Shatila refugee camp, where children and adults can read and borrow books in Arabic, English and French, and have access to computers and a workspace, free of charge and open to the entire community.
